HMS has completed the refurbishment and extension of Somerville Primary School, Wallasey, which now has a selection of bright, modern classrooms and an impressive new administration space.
The North West new-build and property maintenance specialist was brought in by Wirral Council to refurbish the school’s teaching areas, which were in need of repair and modernisation.
Three classrooms were fully upgraded to modern standards. An enhanced electrical system was installed, along with new suspended ceilings, flooring and storage units.
Full redecoration finished in September 2017 as Phase 1 completed on time and budget.
HMS next secured the contract to deliver the school’s Phase 2 extension works - more than doubling the original project value.
Teams arrived on site to empty the outdated administration structure and store all soft furnishings in a secure container on-site. This small facility was then demolished and a larger footprint was set out.
The striking new-build took less than two months to complete, including the installation of services and double-glazed windows throughout.
Inside, the spacious reception and waiting areas have a welcoming open plan layout, while the School Head and Business Manager have their own private offices.
HMS Managing Director Paul Worthington said, “It’s great to see both phases of this development handed over to the high standards we expect at every contract.
“There were challenges to overcome, especially with the project area so close to the live school environment,” he explained. “As usual, our experienced team took everything in its stride and delivered the new facility on time and in budget.”
